November 5 Crop Progress & Harvest Report - NE - IA - US

NEBRASKA CROP PROGRESS AND HARVEST REPORT

For the week ending November 4, 2018, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 4 short, 80 adequate, and 15 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 6 short, 84 adequate, and 9 surplus.

Field Crops Report:
Corn harvested was 65 percent, equal to last year, and behind 72 for the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested was 90 percent, near 94 last year, and behind 96 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 6 poor, 22 fair, 50 good, and 20 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 93 percent, near 92 last year and 96 average.

Sorghum harvested was 73 percent, ahead of 63 last year, but near 76 average.

Pasture and Range Report:

Pasture and range conditions rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 19 fair, 63 good, and 14 excellent.  



IOWA CROP PROGRESS & HARVEST REPORT


Iowa farmers had another good week for harvesting with 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 4, 2018, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Activities for the week included harvesting corn and soybeans, baling stalks, anhydrous and manure application, fall tillage, tile repair, and planting cover crops.

Topsoil moisture levels rated 0 percent very short, 1 percent short, 71 percent adequate and 28 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture levels rated 0 percent very short, 2 percent short, 71 percent adequate and 27 percent surplus.

Seventy-two percent of the State’s corn for grain crop has been harvested, 3 days ahead of last year but 1 day behind the five-year average. Farmers in central Iowa have harvested 80 percent of their corn for grain while farmers in the southwest have 45 percent of their corn for grain remaining to be harvested. Moisture content of field corn being harvested averaged 17 percent.

Soybean harvest was 88 percent complete, 2 days behind last year and 6 days behind the average.

Recent rains have left some feedlot cattle stressed with standing water and muddy conditions, while others reported livestock conditions as very good.



US Farmers Log Another Week of Double-Digit Gains in Corn, Soybean Harvest


U.S. farmers logged another week of double-digit gains in the corn and soybean harvest last week, USDA's National Ag Statistics Service said in its weekly Crop Progress report on Monday.

As of Sunday, Nov. 4, 83% of the nation's soybeans were harvested, up 11 percentage points from the previous week. That was 6 percentage points behind the five-year average of 89%, an improvement from the previous week when harvest lagged the average pace by 9 points.

Corn harvest ended the week at 76% complete, up 13 percentage points from the previous week. It was the first time this season that corn harvest fell behind the average pace, which is 77% for this time of year.

Meanwhile, winter wheat progress was behind average last week. Eighty-four percent of the crop was planted as of Sunday, behind last year's 90% and also behind the five-year average of 90%. Winter wheat emerged, at 70%, was behind both last year's pace of 74% and the average pace of 77%.

NASS estimated 51% of winter wheat was in good-to-excellent condition, down 2 percentage points from 53% the previous week.

Sixty-four percent of the sorghum crop was harvested as of Sunday, behind 70% last year and 12 percentage points behind the five-year average of 76%.
